The institute's core
Scientists, clinicians, and informaticians — working as one team
HIRI constitutes multidisciplinary research teams of scientists, clinicians and informaticians, organised according to the nature of the health research problem and its aligned solution. Anchored at Makerere University, our resident researchers come together from three schools — the School of Public Health, the College of Health Sciences, and the School of Computing and Informatics Sciences — providing an ideal environment for multidisciplinary research, innovation and education in health informatics focused on the health data and technologies critical to advancing health care for all.
HIRI is a network — leaders, researchers, fellows, affiliates, partner institutions, implementing partners, and the next generation we're training. When a project begins, its team is assembled around the specific health problem it addresses, drawing in researchers, fellows, and specialists from other universities, implementing partners, government health agencies, and collaborating institutions — both in Uganda and internationally. Each project's page lists the full team involved.
